30 Hour Famine Update

This year we had 26 youth participate in the 30 Hour Famine, a program through World Vision. At the 30 Hour Famine all the participants went 30 hours without food or only had a few small meals of rice and beans. Either way, they got a real taste of what it is like to be hungry, all while learning about the huge hunger problem around the world. During the famine participants went around Marthasville meeting the community members and collecting items for our food pantry. We collected over 175 items for our food pantry. We also raised awareness about our food pantry, as many of the people we talked to did not even know we had a food pantry service in Marthasville. As the participants did all the 30 Hour Famine activities, their compassion grew: for people around the world, and right here at home.

Some participants chose to go out and collect money to give to World Vision to help fight hunger. As a group we collectively raised $1244.44. That is enough money to feed and care for 3 children for a whole year! Two participants went above and beyond when it came to fundraising. Courtney Monzyk raised $751.94 and Molly Parsons raised $241.50. Thanks to everyone who made this event a success: our participants, adult chaperones, drivers, cooks, fundraisers and donors. Together we are making a difference. Thank You!
